AUTOSAR
AUTOSAR in the Automotive Industry
AUTOSAR (AUTomotive Open System ARchitecture) is a global standard for automotive software architecture, designed to ensure interoperability, scalability, and reusability of embedded systems across vehicle platforms and OEMs.
As modern vehicles integrate hundreds of ECUs (Electronic Control Units) and increasingly complex software stacks, AUTOSAR plays a critical role in standardizing interfaces, enabling modular development, and reducing integration complexity. Its adoption is essential for achieving functional safety (ISO 26262), cybersecurity compliance, and lifecycle cost optimization.
AUTOSAR Classic Platform and Adaptive Platform
AUTOSAR Classic Platform (CP) is tailored for deeply embedded, real-time control systems—such as powertrain, chassis, and body control—running on microcontrollers. It follows a static architecture with Basic Software (BSW) modules, a Microcontroller Abstraction Layer (MCAL), and optional Complex Device Drivers (CDD) for hardware-specific functions.
AUTOSAR Adaptive Platform (AP) is designed for high-performance computing environments, such as domain controllers and autonomous driving platforms. It supports POSIX-based operating systems, dynamic application deployment, service-oriented communication, and advanced middleware for handling large data streams.
A typical AUTOSAR stack consists of:
BSW: Core services, ECU abstraction, communication services, and memory services.
MCAL: Low-level drivers interfacing directly with the microcontroller hardware.
CDD: Custom hardware or algorithm-specific drivers not covered by standard BSW.
RTE (Runtime Environment): Middleware that connects application software components with the underlying BSW modules.
Our Expertise in AUTOSAR Implementation
We provide end-to-end AUTOSAR platform services, covering everything from microcontroller-level development to OEM-specific integration and validation:
BSW Development & Integration:
Targeted microcontroller support with MCAL integration for communication and memory.
Pre-configuration of COM drivers, SBC (System Basis Chip) and WDG (Watchdog) modules.
Network stack integration for automotive protocols (CAN, LIN, FlexRay, Ethernet).
CDD & I/O Abstraction:
Development of custom CDD modules for specialized hardware.
I/O hardware abstraction layer design and integration with sensor and actuator systems.
OEM Customization & Acceptance:
OEM-specific module configuration and ECU extract integration.
Bootloader development, security module integration, and OEM validation testing.
Tooling & Automation:
AUTOSAR BSW configuration tool expertise.
Automated build and integration pipelines for ECU software delivery.
Our approach ensures that the platform software is optimized for the defined hardware platform, meets OEM requirements, and integrates seamlessly into the vehicle’s network environment—whether it’s a Classic microcontroller-based ECU or an Adaptive high-performance domain controller.
Our team has extensive hands-on experience with leading AUTOSAR platforms including Vector, ETAS, Elektrobit, and Mobilgene, enabling us to deliver tailored solutions across a wide range of development ecosystems.
